Do-Gooders: Cast Out Demons
Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.
Matthew 10:8 (NASB)
He appointed twelve, so that they would be with Him and that He could send them out to preach, and to have authority to cast out the demons.
Mark 3:14-15 (NASB)
Cessationists believe miracles stopped when the original disciples died: that God may do wonders, but not through men.

Continuationists think miracles still happen through the hands of saints today: that God's Spirit empowers the faithful.*

I support and respect all true Christians, but I am a continuationist. I've witnessed miracles and believe my friends who've seen even more.

The casting out of demons is noted dozens of times in all of the Gospels. It was a key part of Christ's ministry.** Because demon-possession was a curse: a torment to men, women and children, even faithful worshippers of the Lord.***

Since the devil still rules earth for a time,**** his devilish afflictions have not ceased. Are we supposed to just pray and bear them? Or are we commissioned differently?

'Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation... These signs will accompany those who have believed: in My Name they will cast out demons, they will speak with new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover' (Mark 16:15-18).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Many U.S. churches disregard the ministry of deliverance. But pleasing the church isn't my job. Instead, it's speaking up for Jesus and following Him as best I can.

Rolling into a ball of defense isn't what soldiers are called to do. The best defense is a good offense, under the Word and power of God.

**** Jesus defeated Satan, but Satan remains as earth's temporary king until the Lord returns to evict him forever. The reasons for Satan's continued tenure are worth consideration. Here is a link to an excellent article, Satan's Part in God's Perfect Plan:

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
