Do-Gooders: Overlook Hecklers
Many of them said, 'He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to Him?'
John 10:20 (NIV)
In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.
Jude 18 (NIV)
Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
Matthew 5:11-12 (NIV)
Jesus was heckled, and you will be, too. Because Satan seeks to intimidate the followers of Christ into silence or isolation behind high church walls. Either way, he's achieved his objective: to stop or reduce your witness of Christ.

Have we accommodated his desire by choosing the paths of least resistance? But where is our biblical example of a low-impact life? As athletes like to say: no pain, no gain.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Since you're called to public performance, expect occasional public scorn. Consider some ways to handle it:

1. Endure it with exceptional calm. Like a bridge over troubled waters, you'll be noticed for rising above: 'And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus' (Philippians 4:7).

2. Neither argue nor defend yourself. When ears and eyes are closed to the truth, only God (not you) can open them. 'Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels...' (2 Timothy 2:23).

3. Don't let hecklers prevent your progress. Think of heckles as crosses you bear. Then think of your Boss and continue. 'Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after Me cannot be My disciple' (Luke 14:27).

4. Count yourself worthy to suffer scorn. It's actually a compliment if you're on the devil's radar screen. 'The apostles left the Sanhedrin, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name' (Acts 5:41).

## Do-Gooders: Overlook Hecklers (Part 7)

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
