Do-Gooders (Part 10)
Seek peace and pursue it.
Psalm 34:14, 1 Peter 3:11 (NKJV)
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Matthew 5:9 (NKJV)
Pursue peace with all people...
Hebrews 12:14 (NKJV)
Pursue the things which make for peace...
Romans 14:19 (NASB)
These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace...
John 16:33 (NASB)
Peace is an indisputable marker of the Presence of God's Holy Spirit.
If you stay peaceful during turbulence, you're like a bridge over troubled water. People will notice and want to join you. If you restrain your tongue from argument, you're like the Lord's Personal Peace Corp. People will feel comfortable with you. If you refuse to hate your tormenters, you're like Jesus or Martin Luther King. People will follow your heroic path.
If you extend olive branches to men, you're like the dove flying back to Noah. People stranded and alone will find hope. If you look for common ground with strangers, you're like Christ with the woman at the well. Outsiders will be drawn to your Savior. If you overlook an offensive remark, God considers it a glory moment. Observers will think you are brilliantly wise.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Peace seems rare among Christians today. Instead, outsiders see militants, screaming and holding signs of protest. They see politicized accusers, ranting about laws and candidates. But I'm not seeing a precedent for these behaviors in the Bible.
Israel in the days of Jesus had despicable Roman rulers with ungodly laws and practices. So remember what Christians forget (these thoughts will help you in Hollywood):
1. God allows evil rules and rulers. Through Jesus, Paul and early Christians, we're instructed how to handle them: 'Peace at all times and in every way' (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
2. You've been assigned to glorify God and become ambassadors for Christ--in days of outrage and prejudice. Strap on your footgear of peace, and go! *
'Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen' (Romans 15:33).
