And suddenly a Voice came from heaven, saying, 'This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased.'
And He Who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him.
Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
Children, be obedient to your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord.
If 'Friendship with the world is enmity with God' (James 4:4), if friendships get multiplied by pleasing people, if leaders get elected by pleasing voters, if merchants get success by pleasing customers, if authors get best-sellers by pleasing readers, if pastors get security by pleasing flocks...
If Christians get content by pleasing each other, if celebrities get wealthy by pleasing fans, if TV shows get valued by pleasing viewers, if stars get launched by pleasing Twitter followers, then popularity becomes idolatry. Jesus refused all of the world's friendship offers.*
Actors, models and talent for Christ: The most famous Man Who ever lived, the One Who performed signs and wonders, the Writer of earth's most revered Book, the Rock Star Who was loved and worshipped, never failed to please His Father first.
He did not chase fame, so fame chased Him. Because God's unstoppable blessings will overtake His faithful children.**
God also gave Satan the power to elevate his own worshippers.* Therefore, the Lord's elect must beware the pretend perks of pleasing people. Because phonies have no true value. They become pains and pangs of regret.
Although stars anointed by the world may smile while showing off their assets, secretly they know: their joy isn't real. What they chased became an illusion.
Thus, people-pleasers are doomed to fall, while God-pleasers are destined to rise.
Therefore, 'I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior' (1 Timothy 2:1-3).
To Be Continued...
* 'Then the devil, taking Him up on a high mountain, showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, 'All this authority I will give You, and their glory; for this has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore, if You will worship before me, all will be Yours.' '
'And Jesus answered and said to him, 'Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.' ' ' (Luke 4:5-8, NKJV).
* So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone' (John 6:15, NASB).
