Do-Gooders (Part 57)
Value God Properly
The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.
Matthew 13:44-46 (NKJV)
'But My people have changed their Glory

For what does not profit.

Be astonished, O heavens, at this,

And be horribly afraid;

Be very desolate,' says the Lord.

'For My people have committed two evils:

They have forsaken Me, the Fountain of Living Waters,

And hewn themselves cisterns--broken cisterns that can hold no water.'

Jeremiah 2:11-13 (NKJV)
Most Christians say they love the Lord their God.

' 'Hear O Israel, the Lord our God is One. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all you soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.' This is the first Commandment' (Mark 12:29-30).

Saying It is good. Doing It is hard. What do we value more than anything? Jesus Christ and all of His Commandments? Saying it is good. Doing it is hard. Because the world never stops pulling us, and the devil never stops tempting us--while we remain on this present-day earth.

Satan is expertly familiar with wooing God-lovers away from God. He seduced one third of God's Own angels to leave the sublimity of heaven, and he continues to seduce humans who have claimed the Lord as their heart's desire.

He seduces some people directly, like Eve, Judas or weaker believers, by knowledge, power, money or desires. He seduces others indirectly, like Adam, Samson or stronger leaders by cherished loved ones who lead them astray.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: I'm not an Old Testament Christian in terms of rigid Rule adherence,* but I am an Old Testament fan. It's man's fascinating history, with daring heroes, wicked villains, and It's all 100% true. It's got prophesies and promises. It illuminates God's Character, specifically His Own values. It foretells and describes Jesus Christ.

If you haven't read It, please do so. You'll be entertained and enlightened. But here's one huge reason to know It: It shows how easily we can fall from loving God as our #1.

Therein, learn from your brethren's mistakes, so you won't be doomed to repeat them.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
