Do-Gooders (Part 76)
Clean Their Temples
He said to them, 'It is written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer,' but you have made it a den of thieves.' '
Matthew 21:13 (NKJV)
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your Spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)
When the Bible talks about being clean, cleanliness takes on different meanings. Purity of heart, body and purpose is essential in a walk with the Lord. But if we mess up, here's an awesome thing. When walking with Him, He cleanses our sins:
'But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the Blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin' (1 John 1:7).
This truly amazing gift being known, consider two more forms of cleanliness requiring our personal action plans:
1) Purity in our houses of worship. Back when Jesus walked in Jerusalem, God's great temple was grand and impressive, but inside it suffered dark corruption. Jesus exposed the greed of its leaders. Because when sheep are led by false shepherds, their decadence infects congregations.
2) Purity in our personal bodies. Immorality isn't a new thing, but perhaps what's new is its openness. Immorality is sensual sludge, defiling the body in many ways, like promiscuity and gluttony. Strangely, this boldness sets up a contrast, where commitment and self-control seem cool.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Earth is on sensual overload. Anything goes is media's rule, and morality is relative. If you walk a clean and simple path, your uniqueness will draw attention.
The stereotypical Christian in church clothes with an uppity face is a myth just waiting to be popped. Pop it with uncomplicated love: committed to God, Son and Spirit; uncommitted to physical lusts.
