Do-Gooders: Raise Their Kids In Truth
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
And these Words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach Them diligently to your children, and shall talk of Them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NKJV)
You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everybody. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
2 Corinthians 3:2-3 (NIV)
Raising kids is not just material. Although busy parents have little time, buying them stuff is not the solution.

Raising kids is not just emotional. Although doting parents may feel great love, over-protecting them will stunt their growth.

Raising kids is not just educational. Although ambitious parents have big plans, man's knowledge means nothing outside of Christ.

Raising kids must also be spiritual. Because without God's direct involvement, all of our diligent work will fall short.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: I didn't know how to raise my kids. In my ignorance, God had my back before I knew His Son as King.

But this much I lived and still believe; most parents want to do a good job...

So Our Great Father examples it, and His Word adds written instructions.

He's a mix of tough and tender love, patience and never-ending mercy. He does not compromise His values. He magnifies our smallest efforts. He does not intrude when He's not asked, but stays watchful and available. He allows us to feel our mistakes and cheers every time we rise from them.

I could go on and on, but I won't. His Word shows and tells good parenting, so I encourage you to go There.

And for those of you in media, some of your fans are like lonely kids--searching for a Dad they've never known. Therefore, whatever age you may be, learn all you can about parenting.*

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
