Jesus said to His disciples, 'Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.' When the disciples heard this, they were very astonished and said, 'Then who can be saved?' And looking at them Jesus said to them, 'With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'
For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.
If riches took the form of a camel, with two herculean humps made of gold... if heaven's gate could be a needle's eye, a superbly small opening of light, then a colossal camel might not fit; nor its owner, who clutches it tightly.
Somehow, their enormous size needs to shrink.
What if the big camel became gold dust, because its owner became generous and he wanted to share his great fortune? So he released his death-grip on riches and gave unsparingly to those in need. Would he pass through God's door more easily?
Actors, models and talent for Christ: When Christians think of wealth more than God, they're embracing a serious risk. But how can we know what they're thinking, and how can we see what's in their hearts?
Our heart's condition spreads to the mind and can be seen through words and actions. 'A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks' (Luke 6:45).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Refuse to ride on golden camels. If you're rich enough to purchase one, you'll be richer if you share your wealth. But remember, talents are wealth, too.
So if you multiply God's talents by dispersing them throughout the world, you'll feed spiritually starved fans: fans who've been misled by worldly stars; fans who've been sold to merchandizers; fans looking for truth, joy and purpose; fans who will find all three in your rise.
## Do-Gooders: Release Riches (Part 71)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.
