Do-Gooders: Risk Their Lives
If I perish, I perish.
Esther 4:16 (NKJV)
Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany... He said to the disciples, 'Let us go to Judea again.' The disciples said to Him, 'Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?'.... Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, 'Let us also go, that we may die with Him.'
John 11:1, 7-8, 16 (NKJV)
But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for Whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ...
Philippians 3:7-8 (NKJV)
'Whoever seeks to save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it' (Luke 17:33).

This jolting Admonition from the Lord is unsettling to prosperous Christians who've sought and found a comfortable life.

They've worked hard to construct a lovely nest. It's well-built and secured in a good tree among similarly feathered brethren.

But instead of forgetting this hard Verse, consider a few interpretations:

1) If living in Christ means dying to self, then dying to self means eternal gain. Because selfishness ends in misery, but unselfishness ends in lasting joy.

2) If seeking God must be our first concern, then seeking safety may bring destruction. Because real safety is found in the Lord. Outside of Him, all defenses crumble.

3) If you're more than a brand new believer, then you're commissioned to grow up and fight. Because innocents are grievously harmed by an enemy they don't comprehend.

4) If soldiers refuse their Captain's Orders, then they accept a more serious risk. Because abstention is not an option when unarmed victims are losing their lives.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: If other Christians discourage you from entertainment's exploding fields... because they see them as dangerous, perhaps they need a safety lesson.

All of God's stars are action heroes. They know risk in Him is not real risk... and eternal life is their reward.

While earthly status may come or go, God's approval is the bigger prize.

## Do-Gooders: Risk Their Lives (Part 93)

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
