Do-Gooders: Shine From Within
Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, 'Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said to the prudent, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the prudent answered, 'No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' And while they were going away to make the purchase, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. Later the other virgins also came, saying, 'Lord, lord, open up for us.' But he answered, 'Truly I say to you, I do not know you.' Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.
Matthew 25:1-13 (NASB)
If God's Beloved Son is our Bridegroom, and we, a born-again church, are His bride...

If His Blood makes us clean like young virgins, no matter our age or previous sins...

If we meet physically in Heaven, but for now we are His dearly betrothed...

If we commit our hearts into His Hands and respect His deep commitment to us...

If our respect is shown by following His Words and The Commission He assigned...

If our engagement's length is extended, and we must wait for Him an unknown time...

If this time is meant for preparation, refinement, brightening and polishing...

If God desires a big and grand wedding, so we're instructed to enlarge His church...

Then we must fulfill His fervent Mandate by carrying and reflecting His Light.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: The Parable of the Ten Virgins shows half of God's church is unprepared: insufficiently filled by Spirit, insufficiently lit from within. It shows half of us are pretenders, hanging around others with His Light. But when He comes unexpectedly, those unlit from within are shut out.

Your roles as the Lord's sparkling betrothed, waiting in joy and doing His will, were predestined before you were born. Media was made for your entrance:

To advertise the Source of all light and help fans be a part of that Light;

To invite all lonely, seeking hearts to the world's utmost celebration;

To encourage Christian pretenders to get real, right and lit from within.

* Short article: What is the meaning of the Parable of the Ten Virgins?

NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.

P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
