Do-Gooders: Show Mercy
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 5:7 (NKJV)
For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
James 2:13 (NKJV)
Whether a believer sins grievously (like David when he murdered Uriah, the adulteress caught in her misdeed, or Paul who was persecuting Christians)...

Whether an outsider does things we hate (like teaching evolution in our schools, showcasing blatant immorality, or furthering the laws on abortion)...

Christians are supposed to act in mercy, because our Lord is merciful to us. When we start to see ourselves as righteous ('There is no one righteous, not even one'),* then we lift ourselves to become judges: denouncing sinners and giving verdicts.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: I've spent my later years among you, and I believe you are merciful. You've seen the mean judgments of Christians who whisper or holler in disdain.**

Like John the Baptist did the first time, when he cleared and straightened the Lord's paths, *** you do for Jesus in real time now. Back then, many Jewish leaders strayed. Therefore, God's ways were misunderstood. John came to redefine God's values.

Today, many Christian leaders stray. They quote Scripture--then act like the world.

But you, my most beloved brethren, don't strut in superiority. You confess your bloopers and blunders. You confess the Lord Who's helping you. You confess His abundant mercies.

## Do-Gooders: Show Mercy (Part 13)

* Romans 3:10, but many Scriptures affirm this truth, including Psalms 14:1, 53:1, 143:2; Ecclesiastes 7:20, Isaiah 53:6, 64:6, Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8

** One AMTC grad, AnnaLynne McCord (who began as a model, but became a well-known actress,, had some roles so raunchy that we took her off our website for many years. I read an article today about a noteworthy charity AnnaLynne heads: Together One Heart, (scroll down to read AnnaLynne's story). She's gone public with the predatory victimization she endured as a child, which led to her troubled life as an adult. Christians should not judge. Only God knows hearts, circumstances, desires and ultimate outcomes.

*** Mark 1:1-3: 'The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your Face, who will prepare Your way before You.' The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.' '

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2017 devotion series, 'Do-Gooders.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
