Do-Gooders: Show Mercy
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Matthew 5:7 (NKJV)
For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
James 2:13 (NKJV)
Whether a believer sins grievously (like David when he murdered Uriah, like the adulteress when caught in her misdeed or like Paul when he persecuted Christians)...
Whether an outsider does things we hate (like teaching evolution, showcasing immorality or furthering abortion)...
Christians are supposed to show mercy, because God shows mercy to us. When we think we're righteous ('There is no one righteous, not even one' *); when we condemn sinners... then we become judges... which God clearly forbids.
But with the entertainment industry's obvious decadence, judging others is tempting.**
Actors, models and talent for Christ: I've spent my last twelve years among you, and I believe you are merciful. You've heard the hateful remarks of Christians who whisper or scream their disdain.
Like John the Baptist did the first time, when he cleared and straightened the Lord's paths, *** you do for Jesus in real time now. Back then, many Jewish leaders were corrupt. Therefore, God's ways were misunderstood. John came to redefine God's values.
Today, some Christian leaders have strayed and do not represent Jesus well. They quote Scripture, but act like the world. Adding insult to this injury are those who play the roles of judges.
But you, my beloved brethren, don't strut in superiority. You confess your bloopers and blunders. You confess the Lord Who's helping you, and you confess His abundant mercies that never fail.
## Do-Gooders: Show Mercy (Part 13)
* Romans 3:10, but many Scriptures affirm this truth, including Psalms 14:1, 53:1, 143:2; Ecclesiastes 7:20, Isaiah 53:6, 64:6, Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8
** One AMTC grad, AnnaLynne McCord (who began as a model, but became a well-known actress, http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1715118/), had some roles so raunchy that we took her off our website for many years. I read an article about a noteworthy charity AnnaLynne heads: Together One Heart, together1heart.org. (Read AnnaLynne's story in 'Our Team'). She's gone public with the rape she endured as a child, which led to her troubled life as an adult. Christians should not judge. Only God knows hearts, circumstances, desires and ultimate outcomes.
*** Mark 1:1-3: 'The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the Prophets: 'Behold, I send My messenger before Your Face, who will prepare Your way before You.' The voice of one crying in the wilderness: 'Prepare the way of the Lord; Make His paths straight.' '
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.
