Do-Gooders: Spice It Up
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men.
Matthew 5:13 (NASB)
Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.
Colossians 4:6 (NKJV)
Salt is one of God's stunning inventions; it serves multiple, helpful purposes, like preserving foods or spicing them up. As the salt of the earth, Christ's do-gooders have two big roles to play:

1) Preserving the legacy of their King. Jesus came here so men would not perish, but enjoy everlasting life with God. Disciples of Christ must spread this Good News in the most effective ways possible. Media has lightening-fast travel, plus countless platforms to radiate truth.

2) Bringing good flavor to every table. Jesus was passionate and never bland. If men's lives could be called a plate of food, if every step taken is like a bite, then Jesus serves up a tray of power. Diners have a choice: to eat salted Bread, or prefer the dull loaves/lives they have known.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: When did Christians become complacent? When did God's people lose their flavor? Why would hungry diners want to choose an unappetizing restaurant? Saints are supposed to be attractive: lovely to see and better to taste. Do-gooders are exceptional hosts.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: When did Christian shakers lose their tops? When did their salt spill out everywhere? Too much salt makes food inedible.

Therein, guests have nothing good to eat. Ranting and raving is not God's salt. By a ruinous presentation, the Bread of life may be rejected.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Become appropriate seasoning, neither boring nor over the top. Be God's bright spots at every table, every casting call and production.

Be spicy, unique and appealing. Many will ask for your Recipe, and what a joy He will be to share.

## Do-Gooders: Spice It Up (Part 11)

* Short article: What does it mean that believers are to be salt and light (Matthew 5:13-16)?

NOTE: This is a republished edit of a 2017 devotion series, 'Do-Gooders.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Every disciple in every field performs for Christ. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
