Do-Gooders: Stop To Help Strangers
A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, who stripped him of his clothing, wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a certain priest came down that road. And when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. Likewise a Levite, when he arrived at the place, came and looked, and passed by on the other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was. And when he saw him, he had compassion. So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, 'Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.' So which of these three do you think was neighbor to him who fell among the thieves?
Luke 10:30-36 (NKJV)*
Christians applaud The Good Samaritan, but which of us would 'Go and do likewise' (Luke 10:37, NKJV)?
In our hustle-bustle-tussle culture...
Where work, school and hobbies absorb our time;
Where family hours get lost in the mix;
Where media becomes our great escape;
Where a good night's sleep is a long lost friend...
Do we zoom beyond stranded motorists?
Do we pass by a wounded veteran?
Do we flip the news from war-torn victims?
Do we neglect lonely people at church?
Do we sit still when a kid is bullied?
Do we overlook our neighbors in need?
Do we justify our inattention... because we have other places to be?
Actors, models and talent for Christ:
Do-gooders must stop to help strangers, because doing good is what you do;
Because God puts people in your path and meetings are divine appointments;
Because He's watching you intently and He's testing your priorities;
Because your schedule is meaningless if you turn away from suffering.
'Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels' (Hebrews 13:2, NKJV).
'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me... Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me' (Matthew 25:34-36, 40, NKJV).
## Do-Gooders: Stop To Help Strangers (Part 94)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2016 series called, 'Do-Gooders.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Do-Gooders series.
