Dream Haters (Part 2)
Dream Fakers
The idols speak deceitfully,

Diviners see visions that lie;

They tell dreams that are false,

They give comfort in vain.

Therefore the people wander like sheep,

Oppressed for lack of a shepherd.

Zechariah 10:2 (NIV)
In the days when Jesus walked the earth, most people worshipped idols: images of gods, promises of favor, and dreams of fortune. But these idols were phonies. The only thing they delivered were dressed up lies.

'No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14).

Sometimes, ordinary people witnessed extraordinary shows, starring gladiators, beauties and beasts; sports, blood and savagery. They were exciting visions, inspiring their audiences toward similar values.

Even among God's chosen people, dreams could deceive and visions could lie. False prophets rose among old Jews and new Christians. Jesus warned His apostles, and His apostles warned their brethren. Because dream fakers sprang up like tares among wheat, seeking dominance in holy fields.

Now imagine a world where you can see thousands of dreams every day, by means of personal screens. Because that's our world, starring gladiators, beauties and beasts; sports, blood and savagery. They're exciting dreams, inspiring us toward similar values.

We call these dreams entertainment, news or even reality. Unfortunately, most of them are lures: shiny hooks fashioned from fool's gold, drawing various people toward various places... anywhere but God.

Here's the thing: both entertainment and news are funded by salesmen: merchandisers who seek everything we've got. They are dream fakers: magicians of media, visionaries of vice and agents of intoxication.

Enter Stage Right, actors, models and talent for Christ: Because 'When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him' (Isaiah 59:19).

You are His standard. You are His dreams. You are His agents of detoxification, inspiring audiences toward His values. Especially, the One True Value: Jesus.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
