Eating Right (Part 17: Teach Your Children)
I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV)
God's food brings life. Man's food brings death. 'Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live' (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Choosing life means denying death. Denying junk food, processed food, chemical-laden food, artificial food, sugary food, and food with ingredients you cannot comprehend. Secure your pantry from corruption like you secure your home from thieves.

Because Satan will steal your health if you allow it.

But misguided moms might argue, 'I'm the one with a weight problem. Not my kids. I want them to be able to eat and drink the foods they enjoy. Why should I penalize them?'

Moms: you are not penalizing them. You are teaching them. You are bringing 'Them up in the training and admonition of the Lord' (Ephesians 6:4), Who says, 'You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body' (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Eating junk is not glorifying God.

Therefore, teach your children good eating habits they can carry with them for the rest of their lives. Clearly, eating disorders are harming and killing our people. The majority of us carry bulging bodies (obesity) and a painful minority walk in skeletal bodies (anorexia).

Fit young bodies will not become fit mature bodies without the foundation of good eating habits taught by wise parents. Lest you think I preach as 'Holier than thou' (Isaiah 65:5), know this: I neither lived nor taught good eating habits within my family. Consequently, everyone suffered. But through God's mercy, we are learning.

Yet if you willfully ignore what you know to be right, consider the generational curses you may bring upon the children you so love.

Yes, 'The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation' (Numbers 14:18).

So, keep your house clean and teach your children well. Don't eat like the world. Eat like God.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
