Eating Right (Part 28: Soy: A Health Food Pretender)

Soy is a health-food pretender and a health-robbing offender. Like high-fructose corn syrup, soy is everywhere. Both corn syrup and soy are sweet talkers. But soy is the bigger con, because it masquerades as a good guy.

'And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness' (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). Food scientists have become like Doctor Frankenstein--creating imitations of life.

But foods that 'talk' good, taste good, and look good can be deceptive: 'Which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness' (Matthew 23:27).

Unfortunately, the push for profit has punched us in the gut--with the contamination of our food supply and clever marketing to disguise it. 'My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge' (Hosea 4:6). In the case of soy, consider the following:

1) 'Babies fed soy-based formula have 13,000 to 22,000 times more estrogen compounds in their blood than babies fed milk-based formula. Infants exclusively fed soy formula receive the estrogenic equivalent of at least four birth control pills per day' (Westin A. Price Foundation).

2) Health risks of soy include thyroid abnormalities, kidney damage, infertility, insomnia, allergies, difficulty losing weight, mood swings, increased risk of cancer, and a plethora of problems embarrassing and dangerous to men.

3) Soy foods to consider avoiding: soy infant formula, milk, cheese, ice cream, yogurt, soybean oil, 'meat,' nutrition bars, cereals, 'health' shakes made with soy protein isolate or TVP (texturized vegetable protein), and tofu.

Consider also that 91% of soy grown in the U.S. is genetically modified, which opens another Pandora's Box of trouble. Therefore, become wise to Satan's devices. Arm yourself with the truth. Soy can destroy.

Note: For centuries, Asians have consumed fermented soy products like natto, tempeh, miso, and soy sauce. The fermentation process removes the bad stuff and leaves the good stuff.
