Faith That Uplifts
He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it.
Titus 1:9 (NIV)
But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called Today.
Hebrews 3:13 (NIV)
The lost and the downtrodden need to see the hope of God inside us. They need to see a helping hand, His helping hand in ours, to lift them up. 'When people are brought low and you say, 'Lift them up!' then He will save the downcast' (Job 22:29).
Are you still in school? When I was a student, I failed to talk with the loneliest and most awkward kids, the kids with acne or bad clothes, the new kids. I was too busy trying to be liked by the popular kids.
Are you in the corporate world? It may be tempting to grab for a promotion at the expense of another, to take credit rather than giving it, to ask familiar faces to lunch rather than inviting someone new or different.
What about church? Jesus means it to be the very embodiment of His love. Do you leave your family or friends to sit with a person alone in the next pew, to welcome a stranger, to ask him home to dinner?
I am guilty on all accounts. I thank Jesus more than I can ever say for His amazing forgiveness, for giving me chance upon chance to improve.
Let us raise others as we ourselves are raised. But time is running out. We are warned. Even if our admittance into Heaven is paid, how many people can we help along the way? Our entire purpose on this earth is to love God first and our fellow human beings second.
Let us grow our faith to its best conclusion: faith that uplifts.
