Fellowship: Church Revival
Come, and let us return to the Lord;
For He has torn, but He will heal us;
He has stricken, but He will bind us up.
After two days He will revive us;
On the third day He will raise us up,
That we may live in His sight.
Let us know,
Let us pursue the knowledge of the Lord.
His going forth is established as the morning;
He will come to us like the rain,
Like the latter and former rain to the earth.
Hosea 6:1-3 (NKJV)
Revive us, and we will call upon Your Name.
O Lord God of hosts, restore us;
Cause Your Face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.
Psalm 80:18-19 (NASB)
'Satan always hates Christian fellowship; it is his policy to keep Christians apart. Anything which can divide saints from one another, he delights in. He attaches far more importance to godly communication than we do. Since union is strength, he does his best to promote separation' (Charles Spurgeon).*
'When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy' (Corrie Ten Boom).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Here's the bottom line. You've been cast to lead a church revival.
Sadly, most churches have failed to reach the world for reasons like...
Steeples that seem unapproachable,
Pastors that seem hypocritical,
Accusations that seem judgmental,
Opinions that seem political,
Reactions that seem condescending,
Divisions that seem uninviting,
Rules and words that seem overbearing,
Apathy that seems uninspiring,
Or friendliness that seems insincere.
But you, dear performers, are called to go forth, deny yourselves and follow Him; to leave your small nest and fly to the world. The airwaves of media bring an unprecedented way to travel.
Even so, go together, as an unmistakable wave of the future: a cleansing wash of bright light.
While your performance revives your rusty, dusty kin, it also ignites a spark in the world. It's a win-win-win-win.
You win. Your brethren win. Sad seekers win, and God always wins. As Jesus rose from a cold, dark tomb to offer us life, let us rise from complacency and offer life to others.
* I substituted the word 'communication' for Dr. Spurgeon's original word, 'intercourse.' In the 19th century, it was about communication. Today, it has developed a different meaning.
## Fellowship: Church Revival (Part 28, Conclusion)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2015 series called, 'Fellowship.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Fellowship series.
