Fellowship (Part 22)
Church Building: His Stones
The Stone which the builders rejected has become the Chief Cornerstone.
Psalm 118:22 (NKJV)
Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.*
1 Peter 2:4-5 (NKJV)
Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the Rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the Rock.
Matthew 7:24-25 (NKJV)
Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NASB)
Consider the qualities of a stone; it is meek, strong and stable; unique, supportive and enduring. It is dependent on other stones for the assembly of a beautiful structure. Such stones are team players.
If the world's plan was perfect, but a snake made it crack; if its temple would crumble, but a new Way would rise; if the Lord would remake us, with His Son as our Rock; if the church is a building, and we are its stones... then we must stand together.
'If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. And if a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand' (Mark 3:24-25).
Consider the evidence: The Pharisees, Sadducees, Zealots and king were at odds with Rome, each other and God. Both Israel and the temple fell. 'Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that shall not be thrown down' (Mark 13:2).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: When God's hard-hearted house argued with Jesus, He predicted your arrival: 'I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham' (Matthew 3:9). That's you: lively, acting, singing, modeling, high-stepping stones.
Because 'If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise' (Galatians 3:29).
Here's the problem: The existing structure of organized Christendom is crumbling. Never has a house bearing God's Name been so divided. Before the dust settles, you must rise and invite others to rise with you.
So, remember your place: together. Remember your description: meek, strong and stable; unique supportive and enduring; dependent on each other for the assembly of a beautiful structure. You're team players. Growing up from the Rock.
