Fellowship (Part 5)
Without Family?
Then the Lord said to Cain, 'Where is Abel your brother?' And he said, 'I do not know. Am I my brother's keeper?'
Genesis 4:9 (NASB)*
Jacob said to his father, 'I am Esau your firstborn... bless me...'

Then he said, 'Are you really my son Esau?'

He said, 'I am'...

Now it happened, as soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob... that Esau his brother came in from his hunting... 'Bless me--me also, O my father!'

But he said, 'Your brother came with deceit and has taken away your blessing...'

So Esau hated Jacob... 'I will kill my brother Jacob.'

Genesis 27:19,24,30,34-35,41 (NKJV)**
Even His brothers did not believe in Him.
John 7:5 (NKJV)
Sometimes by rash choices, sometimes by poor behavior and sometimes by no fault of our own, we find ourselves without family. I lived all three: 1) Rash choice: As a wife, I chose divorce as an answer. 2) Bad behavior: As a boss, I was married to my work. 3) No fault: As a mom, I watched my kids leave the nest.

Consider three Bible heroes who suffered without family: 1) Cain made a rash choice; he killed his brother, lost his home and roamed the earth. 2) Jacob behaved badly; he tricked his father, betrayed his brother and ran away. 3) Jesus had no fault; He took our blame, forgave our sins and made us kin.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: God did not intend you to remain alone:

'I will call those who were not My people, 'My people,'
And her who was not beloved, 'beloved.'
And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them,
'You are not My people,'
There they shall be called sons of the living God' (Romans 9:25-26).

'For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the Image of His Son, that He might be the Firstborn among many brethren' (Romans 8:29). 'To all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God' (John 1:12).

' 'Who is My mother and who are My brothers?' And He stretched out His Hand toward His disciples and said, 'Here are My mother and My brothers! For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother' ' (Matthew 12:48-50).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: You are brothers and sisters and mothers of Jesus Himself. If you feel alone for a minute, wait another minute. Your destiny will conform to God's Word. 'God sets the solitary in families' (Psalm 68:6). Then look around.

We are here. We are your family.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
