Fellowship (Part 8)
Fellowship Essentials: Unity
Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
Amos 3:3 (NKJV)
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
Matthew 11:29 (NIV)
Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.
Romans 12:10 (NIV)
Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
Philippians 2:3 (NASB)
Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility.
1 Peter 5:5 (NKJV)
Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the Law of Christ.
Galatians 6:2 (NKJV)
Throughout the New Testament, God calls us to unity: to become one by His Spirit: one body in Christ.* But how can we walk together unless we are agreed? How can we fit together unless we are joined? How can we hold His banner unless we are solid? How can we show His power unless we are mighty? How can we preach His good news unless we are smiling? How can we sing His praises unless we are in tune?
We can't. Self-professed Christians who are disagreeable, disjointed, divided, debilitated, difficult and discordant harm the cause of Christ.
In a world where everyone wants to be a star, arrogance is our daily diet. We eat up celebrity and hope to become one. Research shows that fame is now the #1 goal of our children.** Considering the entertainment industry, no wonder.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'You are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves' (Luke 22:26). 'For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His Life a ransom for many' (Mark 10:45).
For you to become servant-leaders in media, you must become humble stars in Christ, joined in deference to one another. Because He is 'The true Light' (John 1:9). Because all light is borrowed: either from 'The Sun of righteousness' (Malachi 4:2) or 'The father of lies' (John 8:44): 'And no wonder, for Satan disguises himself as an angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up' (James 4:10). He will light you up. Only then can His fellowship of believers unite, rise and shine.
