Fellowship: The Woe!
If an enemy were insulting me, I could endure it; if a foe were rising against me, I could hide. But it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once enjoyed sweet fellowship at the house of God, as we walked about among the worshipers...
Psalm 55:12-14 (NIV)
Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?
Luke 22:48 (NIV)
Then everyone deserted Him and fled.
Mark 14:50 (NIV)
If Joseph was sold by brothers and locked in a jail, if Samson was shorn by his girl and shackled by chains, if David was mocked by his kin and chased by his king, if Jesus was judged by a priest and nailed to a Cross, if you've been dumped by your friends and hung out to dry, you're in good company.
Nevertheless, betrayal hurts. 'There's no telling who will hate you because of Me' (Mark 13:13, The Message).
Consider a thought-provoking memory from a past audition: I met an attractive young woman, a high achiever. Her family faced death threats in her native land, so they immigrated to America. She was sure she would find friends.
Instead, she was mocked in school for her focus on grades and purity. She was slandered online and attempted suicide. Thankfully, she failed. Two young AMTC staff members befriended her.
But later, in speaking with same two staffers, both admitted, 'We have no real friends outside of AMTC.' I was shocked, because these young women are kind and lovely.
Maybe this story sounds familiar to you. As Jesus said, being bold in Him divides us from those who aren't. That's a hard row to hoe: a path lit by woe.
Lit by woe? 'Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him' (John 13:31, NKJV).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: If glory is majesty and woe is sorrow, if glory is brightness and woe is darkness, then Jesus was lit on Calvary and you are lit in media.
Your good days bring light to a troubled world, but so do your bad days. Because grievous affliction invites curious attention. How you act in the midst of misery matters.
Unfortunately, most people will let you down. Their reasons? Selfishness, jealousy, fear or immaturity. Even worse, some people will pull you down. Their goals? The devil's business: to lower you to their level.
Only God is Your constant Friend. His purpose? To lift you to His level. In the process of distress, He glorifies you. How you act in the midst of misery matters.
As Jesus forgave His evil betrayers and reunited with His repentant brethren, so must you.
## Fellowship: The Woe! (Part 2)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2015 series called, 'Fellowship.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Fellowship series.
