Imagine yourself at the most important trial in earth's history, and you're sitting in the gallery. The defendant is Christianity, earth's largest religion. The Judge is God, and the prosecutor is Satan. The jury is every uncommitted person in the world.
Each sits with a screen in his hands.
Many smirk, others yawn, but some watch the proceedings with curious attention. Their votes count more than they know. Hovering in the highest balconies is a great 'Cloud of witnesses' (Hebrews 12:1, NKJV). They cannot be numbered, but neither can they testify.
Because they're angels, and this trial regards people... specifically, Christians: what's been done by those who carry His Name, but not necessarily their cross.
The Defense Attorney already gave His all. He's left the courtroom and waits in the Judge's Chamber for the final verdict.
The defendant, Christianity, continues in His absence and speaks for itself. It knows the Rules and quotes them well, but the Substance is missing. Soon, the Judge may close the case.
The prosecutor accuses Christianity of grievous transgressions, including hypocrisy, idolatry and apathy. The list of crimes and string of victims seem endless. Finally, the defendant falls to its knees in despair... hoping its own witnesses arise.
An echo is heard of a distant cry: 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?' (Isaiah 6:8).
Actors, models and talent for Christ: Will you testify? Will you rise in defense of the Christian faith? Will you leave the gallery, come to the stand and bring Truth to the trial?
The jury needs to see you before the last gavel falls, before the last horn blows. They may reject the defendant based on opposing arguments and insufficient evidence.
They don't know what the trial really means, nor the importance of their votes.
Remember when Jesus, the Man, was questioned by Pilate, the ruler, at His Own trial. He became the First Witness in defense of a new faith, soon to be named Christianity: 'For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth' (John 18:37).
Consider the witness stand to be calling you. For this cause you were born: to bear witness to the Truth.
## Fellowship: Witness (Part 11)
NOTE: This series is a republished edit of a 2015 series called, 'Fellowship.' In these devotions, you may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' I have not changed this designation. Because in a greater sense, every disciple of Christ acts for Christ, models Christ and stewards His talents, from which God expects a profit.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Fellowship series.
