Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock.
Matthew 7:24-25 (NAS)
In today's scripture, your 'house' is your life--your family, your business and everything you love on this earth. 'The Rock' is Jesus. He is the 'chief cornerstone, elect, precious, and he who believes on Him will by no means be put to shame' (1 Peter 2:6). Jesus Christ is the capstone upon which wise men build their homes.
'The flood' begins: a wave of recession and depression slams ashore, washing away houses, businesses, families and dreams. Schools close their doors to prayer. Courthouses clean their walls from the Ten Commandments. God has lost top billing to American Idol.
Our Lord knew this time was coming. He sent His Own Son, Who laid down His life to provide the foundation for new building plans. These waters are not like Noah's flood of total destruction. They are rivers of living water designed to strengthen God's people and to cleanse the earth. They bring both life and death.
We 'choose life' (Deuteronomy 30:19). Jesus' Words bring life. Yet we must also choose to hear them every day, making scripture the # 1 priority in our lives. Without God's Words, we are weakened and vulnerable to attack.
Our second priority is to act upon His Words. For actors and artists, the commandment to act has its own meaning. We follow our calling into the world as performers--as acting, singing, modeling, and dancing ambassadors for God.
Jesus knows the world needs joy. His first miracle was at a party. Yet, God's artists provide not only entertainment, but hope. As hope is 'an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast' (Hebrews 6:19), Godly performers are a vital part of His flood insurance program--under Jesus, the Ultimate Insurance Agent.
