Friends To Success: Spirit
For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.
Romans 8:6 (NAS)
Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Matthew 26:41 (NAS)
According to scripture, Spirit battles constantly with flesh. Any Christian on a diet or a nicotine patch lives this war. 'For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another' (Galatians 5:17).

For entertainers, fleshly temptations include vanity, pride, money, power, and fame. Satan offers golden idols to talented performers as perks of stardom.

God offers His Holy Spirit. His perks are 'Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, {and} self-control' (Galatians 5:22-23).

How will God's Spirit help you succeed as performers... especially compared to all the devices of the enemy?

Scripturally speaking, 'Love never fails' (1 Corinthians 13:8), 'The joy of the Lord is your strength' (Nehemiah 8:10), 'Blessed are the peacemakers' (Matthew 5:9), in 'Patience {you} inherit the promises' (Hebrews 6:12) because God 'Will repay you this kindness' (2 Samuel 2:6)...

Because you will 'See the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living' (Psalm 27:13) and 'The Lord repay{s} every man for his righteousness and his faithfulness' (1 Samuel 26:23). Because God's 'Gentleness {will make you} great' (Psalm 18:35), and self control enables you to 'Run in such a way that you may win' (1 Corinthians 9:24).

Following the Holy Spirit provides the key to true and lasting success in the mighty mission field of Hollywood. 'It is the Spirit Who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are Spirit and are life' (John 6:63).

As we follow the leading of Christ, His Spirit shines in us with a supernatural strength and light that will overcome our temptations, overcome a corrupt industry, and overcome the odds that seem to be against us.

As surely as Noah overcame the flood, David overcame Goliath, and Jesus overcame death, so shall God's true stars rise to prominence in film, fashion, music, and theater.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
