Gotcha's Deceits: False Friends
Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?
Luke 22:48 (NKJV)
As for my companion, he betrayed his friends;

He broke his promises.

His words are as smooth as butter,

But in his heart is war.

His words are as soothing as lotion,

But underneath are daggers!
Psalm 55:20-21 (NASB)
Betrayals can be big or small, permanent or temporary, friend or family. As a Man, Jesus experienced every kind of betrayal. King David, His forefather, suffered similar hits.

Surely, each reader of this devotion has endured love-em-and-leave-em losses. Betrayal's sting hurts, and without treatment, it can leave behind a permanent scar.

Consider some of our Teacher's lessons:

1) No person on earth should hold all our trust. Until death, not one of us is perfect. We all sin. We have, do and will fall short.

2) God alone deserves unqualified trust. Only He will not fail or forsake us. Only He is flawless in Word and deed.

3) Forgiveness is the cure for betrayal. The sting still bites, but it will leave no mark. Our hearts will revive and thrive even more.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
