There shall not be found among you anyone... who uses divination, one who practices witchcraft, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord...
For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived.
I've written about the occult's entrance into everyday life through media.* It's become a gargantuan Gotcha!... to the delight of producers and fans.
In my B.C. years, I watched TV shows with pretty witches and handsome vampires. Bravely, they fought evil and stood for good. They excited my imagination. I was CHARMED.
Perhaps enchanted is a better word. What God calls evil seemed good at the time. What God calls good was not yet known to me.
I now realize Satan's intentions: to introduce and whitewash sorcery; 'And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light' (2 Corinthians 11:14, NIV).
Here's the thing: Glamorizing the occult is a dangerous manipulation. By it, doors open for Satan's entrance.
'Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter' (Isaiah 5:20, NIV)... and woe to the people who are deceived.
I haven't found a place in the Bible where God condones magic or sorcery, or overlooks it as entertainment.
