And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman.
John 4:27 (NKJV)
Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!
John 4:35 (NKJV)
In John Chapter 4, Jesus enters the hostile territory of Samaria, 'For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans' (John 4:9). Therein, He initiates a life-changing encounter for the woman at the well.
Jesus had three reasons to avoid this encounter: 1) Hebrew men did not talk with women in the street. 2) 400 years of racial and cultural prejudice separated the Jews and the Samaritans. 3) The woman was living in open sin.
But it was harvest time. The harvest was ready. The time was short, and souls were waiting to be won. Well before His Own people, the Samaritans recognized Jesus for Who He was; 'We know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world' (John 4:42).
Why did they see His Glory before His Own people? Judging by the woman at the well, she was truthful about her life. She did not hide her sin. She showed no guile or hypocrisy. Just curiosity about Jesus. Then wonder about a Prophet. Then belief in Him as Messiah.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: harvest time is here. Consider Samaria as the entertainment industry. Christians have avoided this territory--its false idols, its people, and its sin.
But Jesus enters this culture through you; He stays with them. He gives them Living Water; He invites them to salvation--even before His Own church. Why? Consider His words to the woman at the well:
'Jesus said to her, 'Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him' ' (John 4:21-23).
God's performers, 'the hour is coming,' 'the hour is coming, and now is' when the residents and sightseers on the mountains of arts, entertainment and media are seeking truth. By bringing them the truth of Jesus, you are bringing them to salvation. It's harvest time.
