Holding The Course
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
Romans 5:1-2 (NKJV)
And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint...
Romans 5:3-5 (NKJV)
Sometimes our walk with God can feel like pushing through an obstacle course. It's called tough love. For athletes, obstacles produce strength, stamina, and determination. For disciples of Christ, obstacles produce even more.

Consider some new definitions for key words in today's scripture.

Faith = belief in the unseen goodness of God

Justified = declared innocent

Grace = the empowering presence of God

Glory (noun) = brilliant illumination; Glory (verb) = triumph

Tribulation = obstacles

Perseverance = continuing regardless of difficulty

Character = the personality of God

Hope = unfailing confidence in God

Let's apply these definitions to Romans 5:1-5:

Therefore, having been declared innocent by belief in the unseen goodness of God, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom also we have access by faith into this empowering presence of God--in which we stand and rejoice in unfailing confidence of the brilliant illumination of God.

And not only that, but we also triumph in obstacles, knowing that obstacles produce perseverance; and continuing regardless of difficulty {produces in us} the personality of God; and the personality of God {produces in us} unfailing confidence in God. Now unfailing confidence in God does not disappoint.

Therein we succeed without a doubt. So rejoice in your obstacles. Believe in God's good purpose.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: hold your course in the mission field of entertainment. The narrow path is not easy, and you will face obstacles. But your role is important. Even more, the high visibility of your success will encourage others to follow you.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
