Homesick (Part 4)
For Fellowship
For where two or three are gathered together in My Name, I am there in the midst of them.
Matthew 18:20 (NKJV)
Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One Who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
My daughter, Glynis, is a New York fashion photographer. Years ago, she booked a job for the Marilyn Agency. Her project was well reviewed, and it helped to define her style. In it, she created a story with each of their models.

Although done in New York, Glynis made a short trip to Paris: a day to get there, a day to shoot, and a day to return. Her solo trip to the city of lights was not for pleasure. Even so, she was excited for the work and went gladly.

But when she finished shooting, she called me to say, 'I'm hungry.' I answered, 'Honey, what do you mean? Please find a place and eat!' She said she was lonely and felt like an unwelcome stranger.

I said, 'Glynis, God will not abandon you. Just look around. I believe you'll see someone smiling at you in a nice way. That person will be from God. He's not leaving you all alone.' And so it happened.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: Neither will our Lord abandon you. In the promise land of media, actively pursue good fellowship. Since you'll be missing your hometown friends, make an action plan and stick to it. Consider:

1) Ask trusted brethren to pray for you.

2) Seek until you find a church you like.

3) Hook into a small group right away.

4) Stay in God's Word and look for His saints.

5) If old friends urge you home, make new friends.

6) Pray often, but mostly for others.

7) Look for the ways you can bless people.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
