Hope: Hopes All Things
Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
1 Corinthians 13:7 (NLT)
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people... This is good, and pleases God our Savior, Who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
1 Timothy 1:2-1-4 (NIV)
If hope is an optimistic outlook, a positive vision of things to come, what happens when we focus on the worst-- like seeing the faults in other people?
Ugg! I'm guilty. I've been a fault-finder, condemning what I perceive to be sin in everyone else, but not in myself. Even if I was partially conscious of my own sin, I tried to pass the blame... or at least, to share the blame. Double Ugg!
'Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend's eye' (Matthew 7:5, NLT).
Now I'm learning to see differently. God helps me extend the lens of my hope to grumpy kin and negative neighbors, purposefully seeing what's good in them: overlooking the wrong, loving Who's right.
And if we do, our hope may spread to them, along with a fresh appreciation-- of God, of life, and brighter tomorrows.
