Hope: Obeys Its Source
Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 15:13 (NKJV)
All these blessings will come upon you and overtake you if you obey the Lord your God...
Deuteronomy 28:2 (NASB)
God's Word says hope abounds by His Spirit. His Spirit moves in alignment with Him. If we want His Spirit to move in us, we must be in alignment with His Word-- which basically means obedience.

So... to hope in God, we must obey God, because obedience heralds blessings. Surely, the joy that's found in godly hope is a leading star among His blessings.

But think what men have done for worldly hopes-- and the passing joy these hopes advertised:

We've paid with money we haven't yet earned...
And compromised in ways that we shouldn't.
We did things that were destined to harm us,
While passing by good opportunities,
And embraced lust-- just like everyone else.
Our children sacrificed their innocence...
On the altars of media idols.
We wanted to live and look like they did.
Did we need to obey an unseen God?
Must we trust in an invisible hope...
To follow a Saviour have not met?

Dear friends in Christ, let's reject what media-meisters sell. We can still minister in this strange field, but only in true submission to God, which includes our obedience to Him: the realization of joy's sole Source.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
