Hot Topics... Abortion
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, Who is in you, Whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NIV)
Your hands have made me and fashioned me, an intricate unity.
Job 10:8 (NKJV)
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you...
Jeremiah 1:5 (NIV)
Without a doubt, I hate the act of abortion.
But before I became a late-in-life Christian, I couldn't decide the right or wrong about it. The girl-friendly words of Pro-Choice seemed to make sense. Still one doubt nagged: Who was defending the babies?
Now as a believer, I'm no longer confused, and I'd like to share a few thoughts with my brethren:
1) Many girls are 'Darkened in their understanding' (Ephesians 4:18, NIV). I was. Hateful words or acts will not help enlighten them. Christian condemnation may harm the cause of Christ among troubled people in need of a Savior.
2) Surely, aborted babies go straight to Heaven, and their new lives are in the best possible Hands. However, their mothers continue to suffer. Even so, God forgives and restores. So should we.
3) Countless children and adults were unjustly killed in the merciless days when Jesus walked the earth. However, our King did not dispute Caesar's laws, knowing God's Laws can indeed resurrect the dead.*

* Surely, believers can speak with their votes. I have and will. (Voting was not an option in ancient Israel.) But I will not publicly condemn.
