Hot Topics... Drugs: Opioids
All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.
1 Corinthians 6:12 (NASB)
Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.
Galatians 5:1 (NASB)
What bondage is worse than drug addiction? Maybe only actual slavery. In both, people are cruelly entrapped and forced to do unconscionable things.

What gets me about the opioid jail is that medical doctors opened it. Too thoughtlessly, they prescribed a death trap: either death to the life addicts once knew... or a literal departure from earth.

A close member of my own family had a wreck, felt pain, took drugs and got hooked. A multi-year downward spiral began. I won't list the awful repercussions.*

Before good doctors get angry, please know: I was married to a family doc for decades, and I know the time pressure a majority of doctors now face.

Nevertheless, great care should be taken with drugs, especially addictive ones. Also, patients must educate themselves and refuse those that do more harm than good.

## Hot Topic Series: Drugs, Opioids (Part 21)

* Good news: This family member is now un-hooked and rebuilding a stable and productive life.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
