Hot Topics... Homelessness
Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His Head.
Matthew 8:20 (NIV)
Share your food with the hungry,
And give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
And do not hide from relatives who need your help.
Isaiah 58:7 (NLT)
Counting refugees and street dwellers, over 50 million people are involuntarily homeless.
Counting Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Paul and other disciples, Bible stars were voluntarily homeless.
Consider an excerpt from a previous devotion:
'Men are tempted by Towers of Babel and women by tons of trifles. I respect voluntary simplification: Christians who consider movement their mission and Jesus their Home. I don't think God hates fancy, but He does hate idols. Very easily, one can become the other.'
'I am stunned by the involuntary simplification of homelessness. Over 50 million refugees are currently stuck between rocks and hard places. The rocks are war zones, persecution and poverty. The hard places are nations refusing them entry.'
'Where is our safety? Most Christians know the answer: God! Then why don't we act like it? As an American Christian, I've been guilty of laying low: avoiding hard places, people and jobs. Since the world is a nasty place, we choose comfort zones over battle zones.'
'Actors, models and talent for Christ: as trailblazers, you must lead people home: home to the safety of Jesus; home to the fellowship of faith.'
'The biggest dangers for American Christians aren't Satan, sinners, media or mission fields. They're tight churches and worldly goals. They're apathy and halfway hearts.'
'I believe you're different. I believe God gave you the courage to go unto all nations, the calling to lead men without judgment. I believe you're on fire with red-hot hearts. So embrace your roles in entertainment. Continue through trials and tribulations' (edit from prior Daily Devotion).* **
