Hot Topics... Respect
Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect...
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV)
Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God...
1 Peter 2:17 (NIV)
Respect is deference or courtesy.
Christians are called to respect outsiders, so they'll be inclined to respect us, too. Why? Because as ambassadors for Christ, good diplomatic skills are essential.
Why? Because kind and gentle behavior will help us gain access to hurting hearts. Whereas, mean or arrogant behavior will get foreign doors slammed in our faces. But the One really knocking is Jesus. We're only His regional surrogates.
Here's one thing believers must remember:
While disrespect is an increasing norm, it can't become a Christian's standard form--not even when we're slandered and disdained, not even when we're angry with the world, not even when we feel we're in the right.
'Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near' (Philippians 4:5, NIV).
