Hot Topics... School: Degrees
I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the Law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today...

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ... I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.
Acts 22:3, Philippians 3:7-8 (NIV)
Certain jobs (like in science, medicine, math, law or academics) require an extended education of things other men have written and done. Advanced degrees are typical.

Other jobs (like in entertainment or technical fields) require giftings and practice to master. Experienced coaches and teachers give guidance. Degrees are optional.

Church jobs (like elders, deacons and pastors) require a growing knowledge of God's Word, detailed lifestyle criteria* and Holy Spirit leading. Degrees are questionable.

Because the teachings of men can lead the best intentioned believers in the wrong direction.

Surely, they did for religious leaders in the days of Jesus. Example: Saul (who became Paul) had the very best man-ordained education, only to get reborn and retrained under the direct guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Conclusion? Don't get proud of your degrees. They mean nothing to God. Stay humble.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
