Hot Topics... School: Shootings
If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn't wander away! In the same way, it is not My heavenly Father's will that even one of these little ones should perish.
We can hardly touch a hotter topic than school shootings. These terrible acts are increasing in America.
Tragically, some of the shooters were children themselves. Studies reveal them as loners who were mocked or bullied... which doesn't excuse them, but it does provide key details.
Most proposed solutions focus on increased gun control.* But I'd like to offer some lesser-discussed perspectives:
1) Bullying in schools must be tackled like white on lightning, as in zero tolerance. This includes verbal abuse.
2) To me, most to blame is media: dark films and big news. In one way or another, they both glorify evil.**
3) The church must up its one-on-one game of youth discipling, as school-age saints reach out to the hurt, bullied and lonely.
They have the greatest opportunity for prevention, by showing kindness to broken kids before it's too late.
## Hot Topics, School: Shootings (Part 62)
* Previous Hot Topic devotion on Guns:
** Obviously, films where shooters and bad guys are made to look cool, satisfied and prosperous are harmful. Also to blame is the non-stop news coverage of shooters. To troubled kids and adults who do not value their own lives (nor the lives of others), this infamous stardom is tempting, as in 'going down in a blaze of glory.a..
** Even so, behind every evil earthly act is Satan. Therein, spiritual warfare is of vital importance: praying for ourselves and intercessory prayers for others.
