Hot Topics... Unwed Mothers
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: when His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with Child by the Holy Spirit.
Matthew 1:18 (NASB)
Mary could have been an unwed mother, if not for an angel's revelation and Joseph's unusual compassion. Even so, we might guess at the gossip surrounding her curious pregnancy.

Then we have Rahab, a heathen harlot, who became one of God's leading ladies. What haughty eyes did she have to endure before becoming Bible royalty?

But then again, God looks past lesser things, observes how we handle adversity and goes straight to the heart of the matter. Shouldn't His priorities become ours?

So let's consider a few pressing points regarding how we treat unwed mothers:

1. Although no girl gets pregnant like Mary, the Lord still ordains every conception.

2. Who are we to cast stones of damnation toward a child or struggling young woman?

3. Even when a girl makes a faulty choice, how many have we made? More than we know.

4. Unwed mothers carry heavy burdens. We should be kind, helpful and generous.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
