And remain in the same house, eating and drinking such things as they give, for the laborer is worthy of his wages. Do not go from house to house.
The advice Jesus gave His disciples (when sending them out) is perfect advice for your work in media's mission fields.
On the other hand (not God's)...
Do you know people who quit easily? Never staying long enough to succeed?
The Big Boss says: Remain where you are and liker what you get. Don't be picky about trivial things. Don't focus on pay, perks, or back pats. God will make sure you receive what you need...
Just like He does for all of creation. He knows what we need better than we do.
As a signed performer, trust your agent. Be content, thankful, and agreeable. Be appropriately communicative. Be confident he'll represent you well. For every reason, he wants you to work.*
In the meantime, keep perfecting your art. Keep self-submitting through proven networks. Keep creating and producing new work. Keep your social media fresh and cool.
How do you know if your agent is good? (You should have prayed before you signed with him.) But what if a good agent won't take you? Or you aren't chosen for a role you want?
You move on and brush the dust off your feet. Don't let it bother you one little bit. That agent or job wasn't right for you. Remember: Rejection is protection. Also note:
Some outside performers are wise enough to embrace God's supernatural laws. They're savvy, persistent and resilient.
The world preaches, 'Sales is a numbers game.' The Lord teaches, 'Let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing' (James 1:4). Both of these statements are completely true.
Follow them for successful advancement.
## How To Hold & When To Fold
NOTE: This is a 2021 update of a 2011 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
* Occasionally, God may prompt you to change agents. Perhaps when your agent no longer regards you, or (for whatever reason) he's not staying on top of his game. BUT... make sure your decision is prayerful and not based on selfishness or seeking a 'more prestigious' name.
