Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near.
Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming... be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.
For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night.
Actors, models and talent for Christ now rise to pivotal positions in a 'hurry up and wait' business.
Consider the American Heritage Dictionary definition of 'hurry up and wait:'
To 'move quickly and then have to wait for something or someone... This expression dates from the 1940s and probably originated in the armed services.'
Physically, a star for God is a good performer in show business.
Spiritually, a star for God is 'A good soldier of Jesus Christ' (2 Timothy 2:3).
Therein, you have two identities. You're an actor and a soldier. You're...
A Lamb and a Lion. Clark Kent and Superman.
Because a Carpenter was God. Like Him, you're called to be as harmless as a dove but as savvy as a serpent (see Matthew 10:16). To be in this world, but not of it.
How do these seemingly opposite identities relate to 'hurry up and wait'?
'Hurry up and wait' is a prime directive from God AND man: from the King of kings AND the kings of entertainment.
Therefore, you must learn this action step to be successful for Him and them.
The world says, 'Ready, set, go!' Jesus says, 'You do not belong to the world' (John 15:19).
God's dividing line is crystal clear. Although the devil can't erase it, he delights in covering it up. The greatest cover-up in our world is modern media's messaging.
Even God's children can be confused. They jump ahead before He says, 'Go'. They cross the Line and disqualify.
Your job is to clean the messy field and uncover His life-saving Lines, to get still and listen for His cue, to run His race in this field--and win!
So learn His Lines, including this One:
'Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God' (Romans 12:2).
Instead of 'ready, set, go,' I propose 'hurry up and wait.'
'Wait' is the missing step between 'set' and 'go.'
## Hurry Up And Wait 2020: Working Orders (Part 1)
NOTE: This is a 2020 edit of a 2013 Shine Devotion series, 'Hurry Up And Wait.' You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.' Mostly true. But you're not 'merely players.' You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
P.S. To read the other devotions in this series, please see the Hurry Up And Wait 2020 series.
