Images (Part 14)
The Temples Of God
One thing I have desired of the Lord,

That will I seek:

That I may dwell in the House of the Lord

All the days of my life,

To behold the beauty of the Lord,

And to inquire in His Temple.

Psalm 27:4 (NKJV)
'The glory of this latter Temple shall be greater than the former,' says the Lord of hosts. 'And in this Place I will give peace,' says the Lord of hosts.
Haggai 2:9 (NKJV)
When Moses led the children of Israel in Exodus, God gave him detailed instructions to build a wondrous, traveling Tabernacle: a 'Tent of Meeting' (Exodus 39:32) for God and His people: 'The excellence of the tabernacle, both in its materials and its workmanship, was a reflection of the excellencies of God. The tabernacle was also a holy place, because abiding in it was a holy God.' *

When King Solomon came to the throne, God gave him abundant supplies to build a great, stone Temple. In both sanctuaries (the Tabernacle and the Temple), a veil divided men and their sin from God and His Presence. It was signified by a room called the Holy of Holies, which held the Ark of The Covenant.**

When Jesus came to earth, God gave Him unprecedented power to build a new Commune-ity: a Place with no separation, a Way of direct contact with the Divine. Because the Temple of Jerusalem was scheduled for demolition, the Temple of God took the Form of a Man. Its Replacement was one Stone called The Truth: 'A Chief Cornerstone, elect, precious' (1 Peter 2:6).

Jesus laid Himself down to become the Foundation of a new Church. His new Church came without walls or a roof, but It does have a Body: 'The Body of Christ' (Romans 7:4). ***

Actors, models and talent for Christ: 'You also, as living stones, are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ... You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's Own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him Who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light' (1 Peter 2:5,9).

Because Jesus covered your sins with His Blood, individually and collectively you can have direct communion with God. Therein, you are the 21st century temples of God. So what should you look like?

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
