Images (Part 15)
21st Century Temples Of Christ
But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
John 16:7 (NASB)
Do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit Who is in you, Whom you have from God, and you are not your own? For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your Spirit, which are God's.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (NKJV)
One day soon, we will see a new earth and a new Jerusalem: 'The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its Temple... The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it' (Revelation 21:22-24).*

Compare that Revelation to this Promise: 'The Lord will rise upon you and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising... The wealth of the nations will come to you... For the Name of the Lord your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you' (Isaiah 60:2-3,5,9).**

Now consider the Commission preceding the Promise: 'Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you. For behold, darkness will cover the earth and deep darkness the peoples' (Isaiah 60:1-2).

Actors, models and talent for Christ: We're in a time of deep darkness. But suddenly, like a shot from the arm of a college quarterback named Tim Tebow, it's become a time of favor for Christian performers. Right now, this very day, God's stars are rising in glory, and you have a role to play.

But here's the thing: As living, traveling temples for the Holy Spirit of God, you need to look uncommonly good and act uncommonly better! In our world, especially the entertainment industry, a beautiful exterior is helpful. But a beautiful interior is mandatory. Phony facades have no place in the Kingdom of God.

Remember: Jesus died to remove the distance between us and God: to clean us up for His Spirit.

So take care of your temple. Make it attractive. Keep your lawn tidy, and your house in order. Then open your windows and release 'The Aroma of Christ' (2 Corinthians 2:15). Step off your porch and visit your neighbors.*** And when people enter your life (friends, fans, bosses, co-workers and acquaintances), offer them food:

Start with the appetizers: 'The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness' and 'self-control' (see Galatians 5:22-23). Everybody loves these unusual treats!

Then water them: 'He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water' (John 7:38). Sooner or later, your guests may ask for the main course, a.k.a. 'The Bread of Life' (John 6:35).

As 21st-century temples of the Most High God, that's pretty much the crux of your mission.

To Be Continued...

* Revelation 21:

** Isaiah 60:1-9:

*** ' 'For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a Stranger and you invited Me in, I needed clothes and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you came to visit Me.' '

'Then the righteous will answer Him, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink? When did we see You a Stranger and invite You in, or needing clothes and clothe You? When did we see You sick or in prison and go to visit You?'

'The King will reply, 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of Mine, you did for Me' ' (Matthew 25:35-40):

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
