Isaiah 61 (Part 10)
Their descendants shall be known among the Gentiles,
And their offspring among the people.
All who see them shall acknowledge them,
That they are the posterity whom the Lord has blessed.
Isaiah 61:9 (NKJV)
Consider actors, models and talent for Christ as descendants of the church--specifically the American church: a new generation born of the old. The old was rule-driven. The new is Spirit-driven. The old practiced sectarianism; it was us versus them. The new practices unity; it is all of us in Him.
The old wore different uniforms; they were very particular. The new enjoys diversity; it welcomes all looks. Because clothes must be shed at the end of the day. That day is now.
God's new performers rise to His call in a falling world. Never has communication been easier. Only once has the need been greater. Jesus fulfilled that need. But He's waiting on us to act before the final curtain falls--to communicate His worldwide plea: 'Follow Me.' In four Gospels, Jesus says it nineteen times.
Before Jesus, God talked through prophets and men--even through a donkey. It was door-to-door, mouth-to-ear, and pen-to-paper. Today He's added media--even through a spider, or specifically his worldwide web. 'The prince of the power of the air' (Ephesians 2:2) must bow to the King of kings, and Jesus has claimed primetime--for us.
'The time shall come when the true friends of the Redeemer will be universally honored. They shall be regarded as the favored of the Lord; and instead of being persecuted and despised, the nations of the earth will regard them as worthy of their confidence and esteem' (Barnes Notes on the Bible).*
'God shall dignify them, by making them the blessings of their age and instruments of His glory, and by giving them remarkable tokens of His favour, which shall make them eminent and gain them respect from all about them' (Matthew Henry's Bible Commentary).*
For such a time as this, His stars now grow in fame. They are bold to speak His Name. 'They are the posterity whom the Lord has blessed' (Isaiah 61:9).
