Jesus is God's Master Warrior who outwitted earth's evil king, Satan. Christ's brilliant war strategy started softly, undercover, and with great finesse. Maybe Satan's pride kept him from seeing it sooner, the same pride that got him kicked out of Heaven, the same 'Pride that goes before destruction' (Proverbs 16:18).
When Jesus weakened His body with 40 days of fasting in the desert to lure Satan out, He had a plan.
When Jesus chose Judas as His treasurer, a key disciple who yielded to Satan's temptation, He had a plan.
When Jesus burned the leaders of the Jews with a bonfire of words never uttered before, He had a plan. 'Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which on the outside appear beautiful, but inside they are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness' (Matthew 23:27).
When Jesus refused to defend Himself before Pilate, 'Not even to a single charge' (Matthew 27:14), He had a plan.
The principalities and the powers put into place by Satan were raised to a fury that grew beyond even earth's evil king to control.
Phase I of the war plan was finished at the cross.
And no one was more grieved than Satan.
