Leadership: Duty Or Delight?
Fear God and keep His Commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (NIV)
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4 (NIV)
Feed My lambs... Take care of My sheep... Feed my My sheep.
John 21:15,16,17 (NIV)
Leadership brings fame, fame brings followers and followers bring responsibility. Like it or not, by word and example, leaders are teachers.

Proud politicians embrace this duty, preaching the party line.

Prodigal performers laugh at this duty, embracing the party life.

Pious parents walk out this duty, reflecting their Lord's light.

Prosperity preachers market this duty, building worldly empires.

But note God's warning: 'Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly' (James 3:1).

Therein, Christian leaders are held to a higher standard, because we know the Highest Leader.

He told us cross-carrying is our duty and abundant joy is our delight, but how do they fit together?

Psalm 37 is a Master Class on the relationship of duty and delight. 'Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart' (Psalm 37:3-4). Check it out for a full report.*

When the Great Shepherd came to live among us, He showed us a new kind of leadership.

Should we, His succeeding shepherds, walk a more delightful ground, talk a more delightful sound or wear a more delightful crown? Because thorns are painful.

Our Leader said, 'The student is not above the teacher, nor a servant above his master' (Matthew 10:24). 'But everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher' (Luke 6:40).

If He exampled self-sacrifice, should we example self-indulgence?

Actors, models and talent for Christ: you are marked for leadership in the most influential field the world has ever known: media.

Media will magnify your fame, while you magnify His Name: first by example, then by word.

Therefore, reacquaint yourselves with His style of leadership, because millions of people are seeking a true leaders.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
