Leadership (Part 5)
A New Order
Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the Law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?
1 Corinthians 1:20 (NIV)
Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 (NIV)
Many who are first will be last, and the last first.
Matthew 19:30 (NKJV)
The first disciples of Jesus included simple fishermen, ordinary tradesmen, a rebellious zealot, a thieving traitor and a loathsome tax collector. They were joined by a woman of dubious reputation, previously possessed by seven demons. Soon after His death, a Christian persecutor would become a Christian pioneer.

On the surface, none seemed qualified to be first-round draft picks. But consider their Captain: He 'Made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant' (Philippians 2:7). He was born in a lowly stable of an inconsequential town to a girl publicly disgraced by pregnancy before marriage. He worked as a local Carpenter until the age of 30.

Clearly, God loves an underdog and chooses unlikely leaders.

Signaled by the arrival of His Son, the time came to establish earth's new order. Jesus defeated 'The ruler of this world' (John 12:31) as a Convict on a Cross. 'The Lamb of God' (John 1:29) rewrote the battle plan for war, and 'The Great Shepherd' (Hebrews 13:20) redefined the qualifications for leadership.

Once done, His followers 'Turned the world upside down' (Acts 17:6), and right side up.

Actors, models and talent for Christ: embrace God's new order. Take the lower roles, and He'll lift you higher. Be extra patient, and He'll be right on time. Admit your weakness, and He'll provide your strength.

Entertainment loves newness, and this movement is new. A door has opened, so walk right through it. Leadership is your destiny.

"I labored, yet not I. By the grace of God, I am what I am, and do what I do' (paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 15:10). I love God's Word. As a late-in-life committed Christian with no Bible training prior to age 51, some people wonder how I'm qualified to write devotions. I wonder that, too. But God loves children and fools for Him. I am both. Ghost Writer? God.
