21st century saints: You haven't outgrown It. God's Word is still your Qualifier. I confess my utter dependence on It. I am in love with God's Word, and I intend to stay in this relationship.
Consider Adam She, a leading Christian and my son-in-law. He is unchurched and un-degreed. As an American-born child of Chinese immigrants, he was a teenage rebel. In desperation, his parents sent him to four different high schools: Atlanta's best public school, Atlanta's best private school, a Christian school and a military academy. None of them could tame or teach the defiant one: a young man searching for truth. Now Adam is a bold and compelling speaker for Christ.
Consider me: a writer of devotions and daughter of a super-model. I grew up Episcopalian, became a Buddhist and dropped out of college. Without direction, I fell into the family business. Work became my idol. I wanted to be the best. I sought man's approval and worked ceaselessly for an impossible goal. I believed in God, but didn't know Jesus. I didn't open His Book until I was 51. Now His Word is my constant Companion in a quest to raise up talent missionaries.
By standards common among today's leading Christians, neither of us is qualified to lead others. But God's Word is our Qualifier. His Spirit is our Guide.
Performers for Christ: Most of you have been raised in God's church. I hope your earthly parents fed you His pure, undiluted Word. I pray you eat It today. If not, I am proof that it's never too late to adjust your eating habits. Adam is proof that the only school you must attend is God's.*
