Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves.
Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends.
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.
Bad leaders want you to sacrifice for them. Lukewarm leaders don't want anybody to sacrifice anything. Good leaders sacrifice themselves for you. God did. Jesus did. We should.
But oh, it's hard. Even to give up a meal is hard. But to give up our lives? Our comforts? God did. Jesus did. We should.
As I write these words, I confess the fault of selfishness. It rears its ugly head in different ways. Perhaps you are acquainted with that beast. Paul was: 'O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?' (Romans 7:24).
Certainly Jesus did, and Romans Chapter 8 reveals God's triumph through Paul. Because Paul was a leader who practiced sacrifice. 'I die daily' (1 Corinthians 15:31). With God's help, he overcame himself. Because that overcoming story sets us up for the rest.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: practice sacrifice. Practice dying to selfishness. Practice loving our God. Practice losing your comforts. Practice living for others.
Because that's what good leaders do, and God has destined you for this role.
Within the land of entertainment, practice dying to vanity. Practice loving your neighbors. Practice losing your worldliness. Practice living as examples.
Because your witness of sacrifice will stun every person who sees it...
Perhaps to consider the God Who gave us His All.
Even more, your sacrifice invites God's fulfillment.
