Leadership: Without Hypocrisy
The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.
James 3:17 (NKJV)
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone. Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.
Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
Matthew 23:23-28 (NKJV)
The Bible has many Chapters I find hard to read: hard as in dire consequences for unrepentant sinners; hard as in no man can measure up to God's degree of holiness.
So that's why Jesus came down: to cover our hopeless unworthiness with His immeasurable value. Contrary to popular practices in Israel at the time of His arrival, Jesus embraced the obvious losers and denounced the devious winners. Matthew 23 spells it out in 38 painful Verses: Jesus hates hypocrisy.
As it was then, so it is now: Today's home of the spiritual IHL (International Hypocrisy League) lies within the church itself. Don't get me wrong. Countless dedicated saints are fighting the games of their lives: giving every ounce of their strength and passion to the cause of Jesus.
They're wearing uniforms covered with blood, sweat and tears. Crosses are on their backs. It's a death-defying burden, but their Captain and teammates help them carry the load. Even through the grime, their uniforms shine with a special glow.
At the same time, other cross-carrying teams are led by coaches who say what they do, but don't do what they say. They keep their players noticeably clean, because they're avoiding the real action. Mostly, they play exhibition games.
Actors, models and talent for Christ: like Jesus, you hate hypocrisy. You know it turns away the people you're sent to reach. Therefore, set the record straight. In the coolest way possible, play hard and talk truth.
People will follow you for the same reason they followed Him.
